About The Avalon Theatre

The Avalon Theatre was built for the residents of Grand Junction, CO by publishing giant Walter Walker in 1923. A naming contest for the Theatre was held and "The Avalon" was selected. The word "Avalon, " derived from the Welsh word for apple, is also associated with Celtic mythology and Tennyson's "Idylls of the King." At the time, the Grand Valley was known for it's apple production.
